Blood Donor
I am a blood donor. I gave blood for the first time last year and have my blood donor card. I am type 0 negative and therefore I try to donate as much as possible to be able to save lives. I believe this can help me in my nursing career because I am already helping to save lives and this is just the start. Hockey I have been apart of numerous hockey teams over the past 14 years. I have held many positions as captain and assistant captains on these teams. I played for the varsity team in my high school for all four years as well. This allowed me to learn how to work with as a team with my team members and be able to establish and maintain good relationships with people. This can help me in nursing because you need to work as a team with others nurses and I am a very good team member. CPR-Level C/HCP I have my CPR-Level C certificate. I know the basics of CPR and how to use a defibrillator. I believe this can help me in nursing because i have the techniques and knowledge to help people when they are in need of CPR or a defibrillator and I can help them when needed. Honour Roll I was on my high school honour roll at graduation and was also an ontario scholar. This means I maintained and 80 average throughout my entire high school career. This can help me in nursing because I am dedicated to my work and have good worth ethic and want to succeed. Mask Fit Testing I have currently had my mask fit testing for the N95 mask. This will help me in nursing because it is a requirement and will help keep me safe from airborne diseases. Hospice Peterborough I have volunteered for 3 years at the Hospice Peterborough walk. I was in charge of face painting and organizing activities for children. I believe this will help me in nursing because it helped me to be able to interact with different types of people and to keep children entertained. NCVI Certification In my second year at Trent University (2015-2016) I completed 12 hours of NCVI Training. I learned safe restraints and holds to use when needed for a patient who is acting out. I believe this is very beneficial to my learning and will continue to help me throughout my career. CPR Level C/HCP Re-Certification (2015/16) I have my CPR-Level C re-certification for this school year. I know the basics of CPR and how to use a defibrillator. I believe this can help me in nursing because i have the techniques and knowledge to help people when they are in need of CPR or a defibrillator and I can help them when needed. AODA Safety Training I completed my AODA Safety Training online for my community placement at the YES Youth and Family Shelter in Peterborough, in January of 2016. This gave me a better understanding about the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and The Code. This can help me with my client/patient relationships in many different areas of practice. Community Placement Poster Fair I completed my community placement at the YES Youth and Family Shelter in my winter semester of 2016. During this I completed a health project regarding reducing incentives for the employees to smoke at the shelter and also involved conducting their annual client satisfaction survey with past and present residents. Mask Fit Re-Certification I was re-certified in my mask-fit testing this year in September 2016, through Trent University. Influenza Vaccination I received my yearly influenza vaccination this year in October of 2017. Intravenous Therapy Competency Record I have successfully completed the IV initiation requirements from PRHC. I now have the knowledge, skill and judgement for IV initiation. |
